MidTerm Elections, Opportunity for Blacks
Hate the way the country is going? Feel bad regarding the way the world views us? Sick of paying for a unethical and unneccesary war? Sick of hate crimes? Discourage by corporations lack of opportunties for Black Americans? Want betters schools for our children?More money to support Black businesses. Want our young military to come home? Then vote. Think about what a Democratic Congress can do for opportunity in this country. Go take a look at your total tax payment for the pass 4 years, is the country spending your money on your issues ?

Sometimes I believe that the Democratic party utilizes race dishonestly to gain the black vote. After all, it’s really a bunch of white guys, isn’t it?
Example: I’ve read that during this administration that spending on minority-based social programs grew significantly - at a rate more than in the previous administration.
Since I’m not a minority, I would love to hear your take on the relationship between the black community and the Democratic party.
I’m a self-proclaimed no-party guy myself. I believe there’s actually very little difference between the parties. Sometimes I choose not to vote because I don’t believe in ‘the lesser of two evils’.
With all respect,
Doug

Your comment about blacks being use by the Democratic Party is a topic of debate in political circles. Both parties are guilty as charged. At the most recent republican conventions, the TV was on so many black faces you would have thought the party was full of black people. We lose leverage because of being mostly connected with just one party. There is no question that some high profile White republicans seem to be very unfriendly to blacks.Up untill recently, the party of Lincoln did not seem to acknowledge our community. I wonder if any black republicans would comment. Thanks for your thoughful comment

I definitely notice the same things you do, JD. I can’t remember a public event that didn’t include a person of color - and I always question the intent of the politician.
I look forward to the day that the person of color is the one at the convention running for president - then we won’t have any doubt! Perhaps Senator Obama. I believe he’s one of the most level-headed and intelligent speakers that the Democratic party has right now.
If the Democratic Party has learned one thing since the last election, I hope that it’s having any plan will beat not having one at all. As we move into this election period, I see a lot of negative second-guessing and I’m starving to hear the competition’s plan.
If the democrats don’t unify and come up with an effective plan to the war, terrorism, the divide of wealth and poverty, health care, and social security… I’m afraid it will be business as usual in the White House.

Rev Al Sharpton speech at the party’s convention, mention the “40 acres and a mule,” all blacks were promised and went on to say he is still waiting, and untill then he would ride this donkey as far as it would take us. We, Black people, have some important races this year and are represented by both parties, Maryland, Mass,Tenn, are all important contest for black voters. The country has soured on President Bush and There were too few strong voices in the Democratic party during the war debate that were willing to take him on. Howard Dean, Al Sharpton. Jesse Jackson Jr but few others. The parties are showing a lack of vision and all Americans have accepted it.Where is the outrage dirested at President that was directed at President Clinton when he lied but no one died.
