10 Rules for Black Business Success: rules 8-10
Celebrate the victories.
Look for things to celebrate. Some accomplishments are marathons not dashes and may take months or even years. Discover milestones along the way to acknowledge and celebrate.
9)
Make it fun
If you enjoy and maybe even love your work then it is not work. If you have fun all day while being the best at something, it will be easy to work hard.
10)
Set goals and plan to get there.
The plan includes hard work, you must have a road map and be public with your goals. Write your goals down and share them with some one that cares about you. It is not what the dream is, it is what the dream does. Many people talk about getting more exercise, a dream, but if they actually start a work out plan, their dream has merit.
When Coach Lovie Smith took over as coach of da Bears he set 3 goals; Beat Green Bay, win the division, win the super bowl! 2 down and 1 to go. A vivid example of the power of goal setting, 7 wins& 0 losses, including beating Green Bay

Number 10 is my favorite. Back when I was just started working, you told me: “shoot for the moon..you will at least wind up among the stars.”
What’s key is to set achievable goals. Success is not a straight line usually but a staircase. Pick a spot that is within reach. Look around and pick the next spot up.

Often times you can find inspriration all around you.Setting goals is huge and going public makes it real. We can be timid about commiting to our goals, we may say I will try sales. If we are not a success, we can always say, it didnot matter, but when we are committed to and talk about our goals, then we must climb to the mountaintop excerting every bit of energy we have to win. We put our heart and soul into it. Do not fear failure, fear not trying. You can live with failure but not trying will drive you nuts.

Number 9 is very contagious! If you’re loving what you’re doing and it shows - it also spreads to others. Great list, JD

Mike, comments from pro’s like you and Chris, who author 2 of the best blog sites in the world of business excities me. As a leader of teams in sales and marketing, my goal was always to have fun and hightlight great performance. An example was when I use to do a all sales force announcement of the close of the day. I would play music, like James Brown, “I feel Good” and in a loud voice tell the story of the close. The team loved it and some would have their families listen to the voice mail at the end of the day.Soon all of my managers would have their theme music and I would add mine and make an up beat shout out of all new business closes. We had fun and performance went through the roof. It is unfortunate that many managers only want to focus on inflexible standards and cannot provide the environment suitable for fun in the workplace. I have seen performance improve due to folks being allowed to have fun
