Black 15 Year Old female child released from prison for pushing a teacher’s aide

One of biggest hurdles a black business person faces is overcoming barriers that are caused by race. Shaquanda Cotton  is to be realeased from prison today in George Bush’s Texas! This story was first reported in the Chicago Tribune in an article by Howard Witt. I remember reading the story and was going to post on it. Instead I wasted space posting about Clarence Thomas.

Luckly some 400 bloggers took up the cause and the result is an embarrassed youth justice system, having lost all credibility to the point, all cases are being reviewed. The best result is the release of this young woman. I hope she is able to recieve help to start mending the scares from this episode in the racist state of Texas.

Some of the blogs, I followed this story on a listed in links below. You will also find a link to the Tribune. These bloggers should be proud of their efforts. Rev. Jim Legington,Theo Johnson,Latimer Williams, and the first post I read was linked to a comment on my Calerence Thomas post, The Young Black Professional Guide. I am so proud of you 4 and the 396 other blogs that took up this cause. Keep Hope Alive!

Political Grind Networks, update

I have been visiting other authors sites and have commented on a few. This is a great time to discuss politics, and Chicago provides a great vantage point to witness society. Have you seen the bumper sticker, so many______ {fill in the blank} so little time. The same could be said of blogs. So many outstanding blogs, so little time!

Today I found an outstanding blog, who knows how to make a point in a creative way, a picture is worth a thousand words! Regardless of your views or your rush, you will find time for this blog. It has a catchy name “where it stands,”check out the link.  http://whereitstands.com/

In other politics, Reverend Jesse Jackson SR endorses , Barrack Obama for President. Rev. Jackson first ran in 1984 to the chagrin of the civil rights movement. It dose not seem as though Obama is enjoying the support of civil rights leaders, perhaps Rev. Jackson, America true black leader, will lead the way again.

In Chicago police under fire over off duty police officier decision making. Have you seen the veido of the off duty white cop,  250 pound fat and sloppy, I will not say stupid, but the video will, beating a defenseless 115 pound blond woman. It has been shown around the world. The cops are trying to cover for this coward. Just think if an off duty black cop beat this white woman and the video was shown around the world! Yea, I said it! I have an idea, release him  and drive him to a bar with some brothers in it and allow him to attack the bartender. I think a good ass whipping is in order.

In another case involving police violence, it is understandable why the cops acted like bullies. A young officer was crying at a bar over the death of his dad, A drunk businessman called to young man a pussy for crying. And it was on. I do not agree but I understand, I would have reacted in the same manner. Of course I would not have been crying in a bar like a little - - - - -!

John Wooden

I am getting carried with this basketball thing. I have done post on Chris Lowery, John Thompson III, young black coaches that have made their mark. Now, I am posting about an old white former coach, John Wooden. In most of my blogs I try to illustrate black success. I have found, true greatness knows no color. And believe me Coach Wooden is great!

Check out this quote from Coach. “reputation is what others perceive you as being, and their opinion may be right or wrong, character, however is what you really are, and nobody truly knows that but you. But you are what matters most.”

!0 National titles in 12 years, 7 in a row, 88 game winning streak, 620 wins 147 losses in 26 years. Coached Jamal Wilkes, Sidney Wicks, Walt Hazzard, Marques Johnson, Bill Walton and Lew Alcindor, along with many other great players. I think there was another win streak of 72 games. Unreal!

HBO is doing a show on the UCLA basketball dynasty. It spends a lot od time speaking to the genius of Coach Wooden. The players, now mature men and successful off the court spoke of their coach with love, respect and admiration. I was compelled when several player spoke of waiting for their first UCLA practice. These 17 and 18 years olds were nervous. The legend of a coach open every year by teaching these great players, how to put on there socks and tie their shoes. That was their first drill. No datail too small.

As a sales leader, I knew the details of what it took to make it. I am learning as a recruiter. Business people, are there details you are missing?

Meme, goals, success

How do you pronounce meme, is it all about me. I have been tagged again  to talk about what makes me a success overall, and what makes me a successful blogger, plus blog about my goals. In the earlly 70’s Eddie Harris and Les McCan did a classic recording called, “Compared to What,” I am a success, compared to what? For me success is like AA, one day at a time. For every day I feel like a success, I have more days I feel like a failure. As far as goals, I am retired man! and have been since, 1-31-05. I have a pension and as the saying goes enough money to last the rest of my life, As long as I die tonight!

I do not consider myself a successful blogger, I am ranked around 54000 in the world, for Technorati, it is my understanding there are 65,000,000 blogs and web sites ranked. I was excited for 2 days when I entered the top 50,000 but my blogs that are  linked dropped from 83 to 71 and now 74. So help me out and add me to your blog roll particularly if you think some of my business insights would benefit your readers. So compared to when I had no links, and and no ranking. I have been more successful.

Why; I have a lot of experience in the subject matter. I am black and I have worked successfully in business for decades. I enjoy debate, I love community, I have something to say, I read a lot, I have traveled the world, I enjoy controversy, I have great role models as fellow bloggers. I do not fear failure, I have grown. I enjoy it, I want to do well. It is terrible to have so much I in writting but remember this is all about me.

Why successful in business, I have successful friends, I try to always see the glass half full, I try to improve myself and not worry about what I cannot control, I work hard to understand, how I can benefit others, I am a coach, I love the action, I am a competitor, I want to be great. I refuse to listen to negative people. I celebrate small victories, I want my family to live well. My self esteem has grown due to being a success.I make it fun.

Goals, Do onto others as you would have them do on to you, That has been a leadership philosophy, and it ha s served me well. My goals have changed and are in a constant state of review and change. I am at a point in life where many of. my goals have been met so I will speak more about blogging goals than life time goals.

I want to move into the top 20000 bloggers by year end. I want to book a speaking engagement byFeb 08. I want to have a blackin community of authors to position a blog magazine dealing with black issues. This is somewhat software depended but it will work.I want my executive search business to expand by the end of 2008.I will want to sell this search firm for 7 figures in 10 years.

My thanks to Conceive, Achieve and Believe for tagging me.

Go Hoyas!

What a great story. Georgetown in the Final 4 of the National  College Basketball Championship. What does this have to do with Blackinbusiness? This is a blog for ordinary people wanting extordinary success.  There is a definite parallel  of the skills needed between success in sports and success in business The Georgetown teams of the  early 80’s was one of Black America’s favorite teams. Many white folks hated the Hoyas coached by John Thompson Jr.

Sports is a great way for young people to learn; hard work pays off, setting goals, monitoring results, how to win, how to lose, how to be a teammate, handling pressure and how the respond to coaching. All these ingredients are essential business traits. A basketball coach is a great example of what coaching is. Usally within ear shot, basketball coaches let their players know where they stand on a routine basis. The best care deeply about their teams and  are great inspiring leaders.

A shoutout goes to John Thompson III the son of Hall of Fame Coach and former Georgetown Coach John ThompsonJR.Thompson III, current Georgetown coach is another  relativly young role model. A high school basketball star and Princeton Graduate, where he also coached. Coach John Thompson III used sports to become educated and lead young men later as a coach.
We have an opportunity to celebrate the success of not only a young black Ivy League grad and head basketball coach, but a family man as well. In celebrating the Coaches success let’s also tip our hat to his Father, as an example of a good black and proud father. I konw whom I am rooting for!
