Media Diversity

My blog mentor, a 38 year old handsome white guy sent me this link on media diversity. This is an important topic and I am amazed at the lack of progress in this area. Major comglomerates are buying up the media outlets and forcing the little guy out of business. Soon we may have only one voice for news.
Often times in the world of sports, brothers are hung out to dry because the media voive is monolithic. A large stone of white reporters. I witnessed Dusty Baker burned to a cross by speaking about racial hate mail. The white media called it playing the race card. Often times the media is upset because the NFL has the Rooney rule, which states an African American must be interviewed for a head coaching job. The group think of one opinion often leads to comfort and looking down on different opinions.
The monolithic media is very upset today because of Imus fired and Duke lacross player charges dropped. These kids and their parents got a year long dose of living like black people do on a daily basis. Often times we are judged based on things we had nothing to do with.
The link will show a protest letter to the FCC regarding the buying up of small stations and providing the public less diversity in the media.if you would like, this will help you voice a protest.
Stop the Media
Malcom X made his trip to Mecca for a religious pilagimage and returned a changed man. Malcom use to preach all white people were devils. He found outside the United States in Mecca, Muslims of all colors being gracious to each other. Malcom made the point to be open minded about people and asked his followers to do the same.I have firends of all races and diversity is a wonderful thing in life. We have more in common than different.
Doug Karr is one man whom I have met through blogging. He is ranked 2602 in the world and loves diversity. His opinion on Imus, “fire his ass” I urge you to visit Doug blog, he is one of the good ones.

Jo, thanks for the comment, the media was like cheerleaders during our attack on Iraq, all we heard was bs, friendly fire comes to mind. The entire Bush White House is a big marketing scam. The Democrats have to learn how to play hard ball. Thanks for the links, I will follow the stories.

After what Fox tried to do to Obama, I will never believe anything the media say again…

JD, Hotep! Now that Imus is gone, there are any number of directions to go. The lack of diversity in the media is an important road to explore. Another road to take is the whole discussion on the bullseye being placed on hip hop lyrics. In any case, we need to keep the fire lit on this one! peace, Villager

In the same SanJoseMercury article on Imus and Media Matters, the last part is really shocking.

These republican ghost-writers are extending their misinformation to target school children. Now that is a NEW LOW!

What are the fact checkers at Scholastic and ABC doing that they needed to be corrected by an outside organization?

“Along with the Imus scandal, Foser touted the organization’s corrections to an ABC documentary called “Path to 9-11″ and an accompanying Scholastic Books study guide for schoolchildren that linked Iraq to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

“We got that recalled before they showed up in millions of schoolchildren’s hands,” said Foser.”

Oops, I used the wrong word, it should be dis-information, there is an intent to mislead and deceive for vested interests.

    I think it is *pilgrimage*.

For media diversity, I don’t think it exist anymore. I am not sure about US, but in my region, everything belong to the government.

Printed & Electronic. But they cannot control the cyber - so, they sued the blogger. What a mess..

    Hey Jim!

Really enjoyed this post, man. And like Villager said, there are definitely a lot of directions to go. On the lack of diversity in the media? Not to sound too jaded, but we’d better get used to it for awhile - and get busy in the Afro-Spear, which may be our best alternative news source. The corporatization of the news media has been destroying newspapers for for more than a decade, and the results are clear. Basically all you have now are a handful of giants who control everything we read and hear on the news. This doesn’t just affect racial diversity, this affects damned near everything regarding how most folks understand their world compared to what’s REALYY GOING ON in the world.

The best thing about the blogosphere is that, once you can manage to sort out the wheat from the chaff (did I get that right?), then you are exposed to much more credible - and informative - sources of news.

As for the Duke kiddies, I thought your comment was dead on and kind of hilarious. They got to be black for a few months. Unfortunately the poor children won’t be getting any extra curriculum credits for the experience. But perhaps one day they may actually use what they learned in a productive fashion - provided they derived the true lessons embedded in what happened to them…

Keith, thanks for the keen insights. We have to get our own and blogs would be a fine alternative. I have learned so much by being expoused to this.
