Alone in a office, Doing business

I have on a grey pin stripe suit, 5 button, long jacket, baggie pants, with a Versace silver tie. I am wearing a solid black shirt with French cuffs and gold Tiffany cuff links. My shoes are black Ostrich skin lace up dress shoes. I got my hair cut early this morning and I look good feel good and am ready to do business.
I have an executive search business and am in my first 6 months of being in business. I sit in an office space by myself, and my music, Sonny Rollins, is playing in the background. I could be here in jeans and a tee shirt. So why am I dressed? Well, I have an important call this afternoon. The call will be to Boston and I will be on the phone from Chicago.
We are to discuss my fee on a couple of potential placements and additional opportunity.
I am dressed because I think it may make me more focus, professional and impressive. It is said when people dress up they behave different. What do you think? Yesterday, I wore Jeans, Doc Martins and a shirt with the tail out. What way do you do better business, dressed or casual?

Man, all I can say is after reading about those threads you got on, I feel better about myself, and I’m not even the one wearing the outfit!

Keith, when I first started in business, I owned one suit, I brought it used from a hustler in West Palm Beach, it has an Iron burn mark onit. It was 3 piece and power blue. My first job was Xerox and we had to wear suits every day, no sport coats, which I had but suits. I was ashame not to have nice clothes, I should have not been, but now I go over board!

You know there are those days when that je ne sais quoi is there and you can do no wrong, those days you could probably be in the office with only under clothes and still everything would go right.

But then there are those days when you feel like things arent going well and they slowly eat at your self-confidence, those days that pin stripe suit come in handy.

I feel more empowered when I am dressed to a tee. I have more confidence and definatly want to show the world.

On the other hand the perk of having your own business is that you set the rules and if you feel like wearing jeans and a casual shirt thats fine too.

LDW, you are I feel the same way about business dressing.
