A More Perfect Union, What are The Issues concerning Americans?
My good friend and member of the US House of Representatives Jesse Jackson Jr. co authored a profound book called “A More Perfect Union.” This book was written with his Press Secretary and Director of Communications Frank E. Watkins.
This is an important book for citizens to read and reflect on the issues that are important to us. We have picked Presidents recently on the basis of; family values, good morals, stopping gay marriage and school prayer. Look where that has gotten us. Are you better off today than 8 years ago? Are we safer?
In Illinois we have a black relativity young man running for the Presidency of these United States. Barrack Obama has blown upped like a rock star. We have another relativity young critical thinker and leader who is black and shed important considerations in his book. “A More Perfect Union” discusses issues I wish would help pick a President.
Our current day issues are; help me out if I am wrong, Democrats, embarrass Bush and win back the White House. Republicans, scare the American people, fight the war, Invade Iran and keep power in the Executive branch.
What about “we the people?” What does our support, money and votes get us. Do we really consider killing a world leader an accomplishment?
This is why Rep. Jackson book is so important. Jackson’s book speaks to America through the language of the economy. There is ample documentation and insightful analysis that demonstrate a link between race and economics. It is even more useful in that Jackson provides solution to the disparity between race and economics.
This incredible book recommends several new amendments to our constitution and reflects on issues our candidates need to answer in order for a more perfect union. Many of these are basic human rights a great country like ours should provide.
Equal Opportunity
Human Rights
Full Employment
Universal and Comprehensive Health Care
Affordable Housing
Quality Public Education
Equality for Women
The Environment
Fair Taxes
Foreign Policy
“A More Perfect Union” goes into complete detail explaining why each issue is important and how to resolve. This is the platform for debate. What are your considerations in picking our next President?

I’ve been paying more attention to politics since reading your blog. My son showed me a video recently of Ron Paul explaining the Federal Reserve. By having a few, very powerful and wealthy individuals controlling how much money we make, they actually artificially degrade the value of the dollar.
This manipulation doesn’t affect wealthy or even middle class folks as much as it does poor people - who have scarce resources. By ‘making more money’, poor people’s meager wages are actually worth less and don’t buy as much.
Paul likes to call it a Federal Tax… the government is able to get more from us without ever taxing us more.
As we move into the next election, I’m honestly looking for an outsider. Obama and Paul stick out from the crowd. Paul voted against the War, the Patriot Act, never voted for more taxes or a pay raise… and has returned a portion of his pay back to the federal government every year.
The Republicans are terrified of him and are on a huge campaign to try to destroy him… fortunately for Paul, he’s clean. As a Doctor his entire life, Paul was known not to charge his patients that could not afford it!

I haven’t paid too much attention at the debates or candidates as of yet, quite frankly I think everyone started too early with the debates and campaigning.
I think everyone has some flaw that is glaring and there are too many to list but one thing I know is the focus on the was and this almost middle-aged crusade to stop terroism must slow down.
I remember Bush saying that the world is a better place now that Saddam isn’t in power anymore. Really?? Iraq isn’t even a better place right now.
We need someone who will clean up this fiscal mess that Bush has create and probably to the point where it may be political suicide and cost them a 2nd term. I don’t know if there are any candidates that will to risk that but time will tell.

Doug, I will check out Ron Paul, does he address the issues laid out in “A More Perfect Union?” If so, he may be good for America

LDW, it is early but the debate is on. The true issues are not being addressed. It is all about the war. American citizens are real people living real lives, over 40 million without health insurance, a older work force because of the first time in generations, retirement age is increasing rather then decreasing and over 20% of baby boomers say they will never retire!

Jim,
To be honest, I think what we really need to be talking about is how to reform this entire election process. Currently the presidential election machine - and that’s what it is - is so closely tied to Big Money that any hope regular folks think they have of electing a president that can truly tend to their concerns is little more than a dream deferred. You can’t even consider running for president these days if you’re not willing to allow Big Money to sink the hooks deep into your flesh. And once that happens, the presidency no longer belongs to We the People.
This entire system needs to be overhauled…

I agree, Keith. I am one of those apathetic voters who has little hope that anything will change. It seems to me that the more someone stays in politics the better chance they have of being elected to a position that can be abused. The machine tends to spit out folks who haven’t spent their life there and rewards those who have. This is counter-intuitive.

Keith, thanks for the comment. Howard Dean and Barrack Obama have proven little people can add up to big bucks and be repeted. I think it would be a mistake to give up on the election process.TV advertizement is needed because few have the time to study platforms. We need canidates that will address the needs of the people.

Doug, Franklyn Roosevelt made a difference, we enjoyed 8 years of peace and prosperity under Bill Clinton. The only way things will change is for us to be informed and demand real issues be addressed. Bush hoodwinked us into the misery that we have in Iraq.
June 12th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
They in no way compare to the current war in Iraq, but let’s not forget Somalia, Bosnia, Haiti, the US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, and the bombings in Afghanistan and Sudan - all during the Clinton administration.
Many historians agree that those years were the years that our enemies gained momentum, arms, money, and the courage to begin striking us. I don’t think those years were peaceful - - and prosperity was thanks to the Internet.
And let’s not forget that Bush hoodwinked us with data collected by the CIA, headed by Clinton appointee George Tenet. We should also not forget that Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998, that supported ‘regime change’ in Iraq - the very war that Bush brought us into!
I’m in agreement that we need a change and the current administration has failed us J.D…. but sometimes the alternatives aren’t any better. It’s not as simple as a Republican/Democrat issue - the seeds of these issues are deeper than any political party.
With most respect, J.D. I hope this response doesn’t upset you… just respectful disagreement.

Doug, what do you say about FDR?
June 12th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
You made me laugh out loud, Jim! You’re a great guy.
As for FDR, not sure… before my time but I’ve read some amazing stuff on how great a man he was when the country needed him most!

Hey JD,
What I see in summary is symptoms of a heart in mankind

The Church is the body of Christ, and
that body has a Head, Jesus is Lord,
the very mind of God Our Father.
“In” Jesus Christ is God’s will, that we are all One
in Him, the righteousness of God. Justice of God is His
Compassion toward everyone and that especially is to be
magnified in every believer in Jesus Christ Our Lord,

The Christian owes his ultimate allegiance to God, and
if any earthly institution conflicts with God’s will it
is your Christian duty to take a stand against it.
You must never allow the transitory evanescent demands
of man-made institutions to take precedence over the
eternal demands of the Almighty God.

It’s about being.

Jim, many of the issues that hurt poor people the most are caused by greed and a lack of compassion.I true man of God, President Bush, would not pick war and killing over the issues as outlined by A More Perfect Union.
June 13th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Doug, FDR is befor most living American’s time, but as a student of history his real deal did a lot to help poor people have dignity and hope.Today, few care
