A More Perfect Union, What are The Issues concerning Americans?

My good friend and member of the US House of Representatives Jesse Jackson Jr. co authored a profound book called “A More Perfect Union.” This book was written with his Press Secretary and Director of Communications Frank E. Watkins.
This is an important book for citizens to read and reflect on the issues that are important to us. We have picked Presidents recently on the basis of; family values, good morals, stopping gay marriage and school prayer. Look where that has gotten us. Are you better off today than 8 years ago? Are we safer?
In Illinois we have a black relativity young man running for the Presidency of these United States. Barrack Obama has blown upped like a rock star. We have another relativity young critical thinker and leader who is black and shed important considerations in his book. “A More Perfect Union” discusses issues I wish would help pick a President.
Our current day issues are; help me out if I am wrong, Democrats, embarrass Bush and win back the White House. Republicans, scare the American people, fight the war, Invade Iran and keep power in the Executive branch.
What about “we the people?” What does our support, money and votes get us. Do we really consider killing a world leader an accomplishment?
This is why Rep. Jackson book is so important. Jackson’s book speaks to America through the language of the economy. There is ample documentation and insightful analysis that demonstrate a link between race and economics. It is even more useful in that Jackson provides solution to the disparity between race and economics.
This incredible book recommends several new amendments to our constitution and reflects on issues our candidates need to answer in order for a more perfect union. Many of these are basic human rights a great country like ours should provide.

Equal Opportunity
Human Rights
Full Employment
Universal and Comprehensive Health Care
Affordable Housing
Quality Public Education
Equality for Women
The Environment
Fair Taxes
Foreign Policy

“A More Perfect Union” goes into complete detail explaining why each issue is important and how to resolve. This is the platform for debate. What are your considerations in picking our next President?

There is a lot happening in Chicago this week. I went to see the New York Yankee play the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. My buddy hooked me upped with scout seats. We sat in seats behind home plate. 2 years ago the Sox poured concrete on a part of the field and added 300 seats for premium seating. These tickets now have a face value of 250 dollars. The price includes a great all you can eat buffet, including carved tenderloin of beef and turkey. All dinks are included as well. The Sox build a nice club for the meal and it has a long bar and several TV’s. They have a conference center and a lot of cool historical mementos.
This weekend is the blues festival, I cannot wait. It is free and blues plays at Grant Park from 12 noon to midnight. This is true American music that is enjoyed all over the world and Chicago is a great blues city. I plan to visit either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Other happenings include; Old Town Art Fair, Wells Street Art Festival, Ribfest Chicago, Italian Food and Wine Festival and the Sox play Houston.

Sad and Tragic

I remember when I first read a post by Latimer Williams, I comment to him something to the effect, you speak truth. Latimer had a couple of weeks chilling for a family wedding. His hard charging style is back and once again he is keeping it real.
Phylicia Moore 18 was one of 24 kids traveling on a good will mission to Ghana. This North Jersey high school senior lost her bid to live life as a productive citizen when she was found dead in the bottom of a hotel pool.
This trip became a tragic and sad episode leading to death and ended a life full of potential. For many of us that is the end of the story. LDW saw the big picture and does a great comparison between Phylicia death and the death of Natalie Holloway. 2 young students, one on a good will mission, one on a mission to party and possibly find love. One child was black and beautiful. The other white blond blue eyed and attractive. Check out my man’s post. It will open your eyes.

in teen’s death in Ghana By DAVID PORTER, Associated Press Writer
Sat Jun 2, 3:35 AM ET

FORT LEE, N.J. - When Lola Moore thinks back to the day her daughter and two dozen of her classmates said their goodbyes as they prepared to leave for a trip to Ghana, one moment is especially haunting. “The last thing the chaperones said was, `Don’t worry — we’ll take good care of her,’” Moore recalled Friday as she fought back tears. “And she was the only one who didn’t come home.”

Six weeks after 18-year-old Phylicia Moore’s body was discovered at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool in the Ghanaian capital of Accra, Lola and Douglas Moore are demanding answers to questions they say have not been adequately answered by the initial investigation in Ghana or by school officials in Teaneck.

Their anger stems from two beliefs: that their daughter’s death was not an accident, and that Phylicia would still be alive had the trip’s chaperones been more vigilant in monitoring the students.

“She was stolen from us,” Lola Moore said in an interview at the office of Nancy Lucianna, an attorney representing the family.

Lucianna filed a legal notice Friday informing the Teaneck School District of the Moores’ intent to sue for negligence in their daughter’s death.

They also have been pushing for the FBI to investigate, an effort aided by Rep. Steve Rothman, D-N.J. The U.S. ambassador to Ghana, Pamela E. Bridgewater, told the Moores in a letter Friday that Ron Nolan, the FBI’s legal attache assigned to Lagos, Nigeria, would travel to Ghana next week and serve as a liaison to a task force formed by Ghanaian authorities to review Moore’s death.

Under international law, the FBI cannot be formally involved in the investigation until it receives an official request from the Ghanaian government. The FBI had not received such a request as of Friday.

The details of the final hours of Phylicia Moore’s life are frustratingly incomplete. She was seen leaving the hotel swimming pool alone around 10:30 p.m. April 15. About 11 hours later, her body was discovered in the pool, still clad in a tank top and shorts with a bathing suit underneath.

An autopsy performed in Ghana found no foul play, pending the results of toxicology tests. A separate autopsy performed in the United States for the Moores concluded that Phylicia’s body had not been in the water for a significant amount of time.

Douglas Moore rejects the notion that his daughter, who could tread water but was not a swimmer, would have been horsing around in the pool — particularly at the deep end, where her body was found.

He is troubled that Phylicia’s absence apparently was not noticed by the chaperones, nor was it reported to them by the students, some of whom were awake until the wee hours of the morning while the chaperones slept.

“Most certainly there was negligence,” Douglas Moore said.

Teaneck High School Principal Angela Davis was out of the office Friday and could not be reached for comment. School district officials have said they support an FBI investigation into Phylicia’s death.

The Moores claim Ghanaian authorities botched the investigation by failing to interview more than a handful of students and chaperones before the group continued its tour delivering supplies to schools and to an AIDS orphanage. The group returned to Accra before flying home, but that gave authorities little time to conclude an investigation.

“I feel it’s important that in order to solve this, everybody should be interviewed, not just a few people,” Douglas Moore said. “That goes for the people connected to the hotel, any visitors, all the students and the chaperones. Then they will most likely get a handle on what happened to my daughter. But to just let it go for a month like this, that’s no good.”

For now, the last images of Phylicia are found on a video shot by a student on the bus to the airport. She is wearing a pink sweat shirt and flashing what her mother called her “signature smile.” She looks giddy with anticipation as the videographer asks her how she is feeling.

“I feel good,” she says. “I’m leaving my parents. I’m excited. I’m scared I forgot something.”

Alone in a office, Doing business

I have on a grey pin stripe suit, 5 button, long jacket, baggie pants, with a Versace silver tie. I am wearing a solid black shirt with French cuffs and gold Tiffany cuff links. My shoes are black Ostrich skin lace up dress shoes. I got my hair cut early this morning and I look good feel good and am ready to do business.
I have an executive search business and am in my first 6 months of being in business. I sit in an office space by myself, and my music, Sonny Rollins, is playing in the background. I could be here in jeans and a tee shirt. So why am I dressed? Well, I have an important call this afternoon. The call will be to Boston and I will be on the phone from Chicago.
We are to discuss my fee on a couple of potential placements and additional opportunity.
I am dressed because I think it may make me more focus, professional and impressive. It is said when people dress up they behave different. What do you think? Yesterday, I wore Jeans, Doc Martins and a shirt with the tail out. What way do you do better business, dressed or casual?

Black- White Marriage, how do you feel about it?

My brother married a white woman. David and Sara have 2 lovely children and I love the family. David is my sibling closes to my age. We went sliding together as kids in our yard, played football and I use to dunk on him backwards. My brother is 6ft 3 and I am 6ft 2. He is in the music industry but also sells cars. Brothers do not always see eye to eye and yesterday was one of those days.
We were talking about sports; David always takes the opposite opinion of mine. He was making the ludicrous point that Tim Duncan was better than Patrick Ewing. You may know I love the Knicks. I told my brother it figured he would love a soft playing big man that even a old white referee wanted to fight. I went on to say Duncan was married to a white woman, why did I say that. I further mention, Bill Cartwright was married to a white woman out of college and we tried to name the black ball[ players,] no pun intended, that had married white. For some reason, David got very mad and spoke to me in a way he never would if I was in the same room.
He somehow felt this black white talk was upsetting because he married white. Now we are brothers and have always been close but I have to stop being my self because he has a white wife? This point to the tension black-white marriages can cause in families. It is becoming more and more normal. I found a site that puts humor in it. Check it out. To my little brother, I love you but that will not stop me from kicking your ass is you get upset over nothing again.

Pay a visit to AfroRomance, humor is used in a profound way to explore this once taboo subject. I would like to get advice on how I can be more sensitive in dealing with this issue in my own family. Help a brother out!
