TOP TEN REASONS to BOYCOTT BIG BUSINESS THIS holiday season 2007
Black folks left for dead after Hurricane Katrina by the government
Rampant Mistreatment, Brutality and Harassment by the police.
Jena 6.
Businesses make 75-85% of their profit between Nov.-Dec. so the effects would be quickly noticed.
There’s been no formal apology/reparations for the atrocities/horrors of slavery.
The mass media continues to excessively depict Black people as criminals and bafoons, and ignores our notable accomplishments.
The government’s lack of urgency in responding to the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, misrepresentation of the protest in Zimbabwe against non-Black plantation land “owners”, and to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters’ fight for true independence from neo-colonialism in Africa.
Epidemic of the display of Nooses are not “classified” as a hate crime.
A sustained boycott was effective for our ancestors (Rosa Parks in 1955, and economic sanctions against South Africa’s apartheid regime, for example).
Want another way of protesting beside marching.
There are no leaders on this…YOU ARE THE LEADER. Just decide for yourself. The results of this will not be televised. In fact, historically speaking, if this is effective the results will be downplayed, attacked or completely ignored by the media. Although our votes may not be counted, our dollars are. Just do your part, then pass it on if you like…every dollar counts.

TOP TEN REASONS to SUPPORT BLACK BUSINESS*
When we spend our money with Black businesses that support/respect us and our interests:

We invest in ourselves, our communities and our future.
We participate in a Black self-love fest by putting our financial resources where our mouth/interest is.
There is a higher likelihood of finding culturally specific products for our unique needs.
Our dollars will stay within our community for a longer period of time when the Black business also employs Black folks, buys products from Black distributors and Black wholesalers.
We will have a greater chance of influencing the decisions makers where we shop.
We will receive respectful customer service and high quality products.
We contribute to the building of business institutions that can be handed to the next generation.
We contribute to becoming an independent group/nation able to sustain ourselves.
We become a force to be reckoned with and able to affect change.
The next generation sees a community who respects and supports itself and self esteem is increased.
*certainly the Black Businesses you select are respectful, supportive and considerate of the community.

Powerful and true word JD, we need to look under ever rock, leave no stone unturned when we look for black business to support!

We have to stop giving these business a free ride with little or no reinvestment back into our communities.

I of course, hold black-owned business at an even higher standard on that issue.

I was thinking along the same lines, and proposed that we boycott all Christmas purchases from non-Black businesses until the week after Christmas. My logic is here.

But then I had another idea that many people think is much more feasible and positive. The AfroSpear is spearheading an AfroSpear Freedom Technology Christmas initiative, and we are publishing a blog that explains the concept and what AfroSpear members is doing to help.

It makes good sense to do business with Black business.

There was no link on in the Post JD?

I pledge to support any of these businesses that I can find…and have product similar to what I’m looking to buy: Regardless of price.

With the internet come Marketing Democracy. There are no longer excuses of lack of funds or knowhow. The web is the great equalizer.

LDW, nice to hear from you, the lady that owns Akriware is dedicated to the black community and has a good business. She has just moved to a larger store and has a lot of outreach programs. I agree with you, we should support each other and do well for each other when supported

Esq, thanks for the link to the Freedom technology Xmas! We need to support black business and black business people in sales

  9. amouse Says:

yes those are all problems but buying from only black biz will hurt black consumers (many of whom are poor and benefit substantially from evil corporations like wal-mart’s low prices).

additionally, telling black businesses to hire only black will hurt black businesses’ competitiveness in the free market economy - they will lose out to companies who hire the best most qualified people for the job.

  10. JD Says:

amouse, Thanks for your thoughtful contribution to this debate. I do not see corporations as evil, I have worked for some very large ones. The point is ;if a black company can provide a competitive product with good service, we should provide that business a fair opportunity to win our business.Sometimes we buy Ice from the whiteman, because it is colder. We must trust our own people.I would gladly hire all black if we are the best and most qualified for the job. As a recruiter, I get to see times when any little excuse often times will ruin a black canidates chances to work for a white firm.We have many qualified and talented professionals that miss opportunties because of their skin color
