Do Blackmen have an easier time being accepted than Whitemen or women of any color?
My birth state of New York is in the news of politics in a big way. On Monday we will have our first Black Governor, David Patterson. I wish my parents could see this. Eliot Spitzer has resigned with his wife by his side. Being nosy I purchased the New York Post to see what 4300 dollars an hour buys You receive a. nice looking 22 year old hooker with no strings attached.. Since I am all for equal rights, I cannot wait for the day when one of our women politicians get caught up and have their news conference with the husband standing by his woman!
The title of this post comes from a statement former Congresswoman Geraldine “My Husband is not in the mob,” Ferraro. It is an interesting statement, as a businessman and being blackinbusiness, my experience is that black men have the most difficulty, when compared with whites of any gender and black women, being successful in business. Congresswoman Geraldine “My Husband is not in the mob,” Ferraro said in essence Barack is lucky that he is black or he would not be in the race for President.
Former President Bill Clinton has been brilliant in his strategy to obtain the Presidency for his beloved wife Hillary “I stand by my man,” Clinton. Slick Willies strategy is so slick, it almost escapes attention. He started in South Carolina, comparing Barack to Rev. Jackson, which to me was no big deal. Somehow the black community was insulted by this. Why, I do not understand. But our overwhelming anger was the beginning of Barack’s evolution from being a man that transcends race into the Black canidate. Farraro’s statement is another ploy, along with Barack’s reverend Jeremiah Wright and Minister Louis Farrakhan being news stories. Barack is losing white support as well as media support. Slick Willie appeared to have lost his magic touch when all along he wanted this race to be decided on race.Obama cannot lose this race but it may get taken from him. If his loses so do the democrats in November. I may vote for McCain or not vote at all. What would you do?

DNLee, there is a real danger of less voters if the nomination is stolen from Obama. I always vote and could not wait years ago to be old enough to vote.I have always voted for a democrat, now I am not sure. Thanks for your comment

I’m voting for Obama - period. If he ends up not being Dem nom, I’ll write him in if possible. Perhaps I should request an absentee if I have to.
After the way he handled himself today? I’m proud of him.
I know people are tripping right now, but they won’t know buyer’s remorse like they’ll know it if Hillary or McCain get to the WH.
Obama’s the best candidate, crazy pastor and all. All of them crazy pastors lurking truth be told.

@ Julie - writing in Obama’s name is an interesting suggestion.
I have always voted Dem, since i was old enough to vote and since being old enough I have never missed voting in an election. but this time around things may be different if I can’t vote for Obama, I will definately NOT vote for McCain so I have a delimma. I don’t want to choose some random 3rd party candidate, I don’t want Hillary, and I can’t see not voting…
But anyway to the original question,
Black men definitely have it had it harder than white men! Obama is not getting where he has gotten so far on luck, he has gotten there on work, tenacity, strength, pride, perseverance, determination, and the grace of God!
He has shown our children that you can reach awesome heights and bypass boundaries if you work hard enough for it!

It compares the efforts of 4 types of people with all other things being equal.

They were all dressed alike, said they had the same job, asked for the same car and everytime the results came back the same… 4 different prices…

In Blink, I tell the story of a study done by the law professor Ian Ayres. Ayres put togother of group of young men and women–half white and half black–and sent them to 242 car dealerships all around Chicago. All were attractive, well dressed, and well-educated. All had the same cover story: that they were professionals from a wealthy part of Chicago. All pointed to the lowest-priced car on the floor and said–”I’m interested in buying this car.” Ayres’s question was–all other things being equal, how does skin color and gender affect the initial price quoted by a car salesman? His results: white men, on average, got quoted a price $725 above invoice, white women got quoted a price $935 above invoice, black women $1195 above invoice, and black men $1687 above invoice.
To me, that sums it up. Black men have it the toughest!

Black people are accepted in certain circles. Globally we are not but in niche situations we are. It’s few and far between and is a case by case situation.

Hi Jim and all, Great discussion - and I’d like to add another angle to the interesting views.
Some say that a focus on color holds us in broken patterns of our past. Others feel we need to raise issues of color to get past the problems. Have you considered that neither is true?
The human brain factors into race and gender problems far more than most realize. Every time we speak words that diminish another race – we rewire human brains (literally and physically) for more racism that works against all of us.
Sadly, racism is kindled by humans who demean people of any different race. Yet it doesn’t have to be that way.
Most would agree that this is a moment of historic opportunity – yet we could miss its powerful building power - unless we turn racism around along the way. It’s highly possible – but no one leader (regardless of highly developed intelligence) can do it alone.
We are each part of the promising pathway forward when we speck respectfully of other races. It’s the only way to find real solutions that we’re willing to pay for - to move beyond race for a new model. It seems clear that Barak Obama is moving us past racism to help us move forward together.
But he’ll need a team of equally thoughtful people - who help a nation to rewire for the change and opportunities that await us on the other side color alone. It can come only as we create new systems for valuing what all people bring to the table – based on human minds rather than mere color or background.

Ellen, thanks for the deep comment. Your understanding of the brain takes this debate from emotion to science. I think Obama of 6 weeks ago seemed to have the leadership to bring this country together and still may be capable. He has lived with and loved people of both white and black colors. That is a start. His life experiences are unlike Rev Wright.Barack pastor, rev. Wright has only lived as a black man, Barack’s experience should give him an ability to lead from a position of love and compassion.He will be able to not hate nor disrespect either color.I hope we have more comments on your comment and Chris’s marketing study.The fact we have debate on the color and gender issues should lead to a better future

There is one geographic clue I have not addressed in years:::Uranus, a planet tilted 90 degrees on its axis.
