How is Business? It is All about The Economy!

We are 7 years since the attacks on the World Trade Centers. Bin Laden targeted these great symbols of strong American trade. Our economy nose dived in the immediate aftermath of this terrorist attack. George Bush stood in the ruble of the Trade Centers as a shaken nation listen and vowed to spoke em out and find the people responsible. With zealous aggression we sent troops into Afghanistan. Every one understood why and the war on terror was on.
2 years later, George Bush with a smitten nation showing support, smirked, shook his head and said bring em on, as we diverted effort and resources in Iraq. Why? Who knows? We thought Bin Laden and Hussein were in cahoots, and that weapons of mass destruction would be found.
We are now 5 years later, still looking for Bin Laden, still in Iraq and our economy is in shambles. Our President is hated both here and abroad and the once great America is at our cross roads.
We have a historic run for President that could bring us our first, woman, or first black or first 72 year old President to enter office. Hillary Clinton gave a major speech on Iraq today, John McCain is in the Middle East and people ask Barack about his church. All the while our economy is failing.
Senators all three, McCain claims he knows little about the economy but is willing to stay in Iraq 100 years. Hillary runs an advertisement at 3 am with her phone ringing, and implies she is the best person to answer the phone during a terrorist attack. This political advertisement meant to induce fear is a Republican argument but was effective.
Bin Laden meant to ruin this nation’s economy. 7 years later, we have; a budget deficit, mortgage fiasco, rising energy and fuel prices, devalued dollar and banks going out of business. How can we win a war on terror while waiting for the next plane to crash into a skyscraper, when the true war on terror is on the economy and our politician are not providing solutions?
Hillary, Barack, John, it is 3 am the phone is ringing, Bears Stearns, which traded at 32 dollars a share on Friday was sold for 2 a share last night. Who do you trust to answer the phone.
As a small business owner, I want the person with a plan that will keep me in business and keep corporations hiring. It is the economy that needs leadership, McCain already says he is not the man. Somebody please answer the phone and give us confidence our economy is safe.

I’m with you. It’s ironic that while Bearn Stearns is losing virtually all of its value, Clinton is running advertisements that imply that foreign terrorism is our most urgent and pressing problem.

As someone who lives overseas, the fact that the dollar has lost half of its value in the last four years is VERY important to me. It means that a dollar is only worth fifty cents to me.

Pardon me if I can’t get all worked up about three o’clock phone calls. I’m more concerned about my electricity bill and what happens to me at the register during trips to the supermarket.

Meanwhile, a friend points out to me that in polls of whom Democrats most want for their presidential candidate, Obama is running ahead of Clinton by 52% to 47%.

Please sign the Afrosphere Action Committee online petition that says Concede now, Hillary!

For as long as I can remember for some reason our government has always been so concerned with other countries and lands while people right here are homeless, starving, uneducated, and poor. While millions are sent to “assist” other lands get on their feet our economy is crumbling.
I pray that there is a turn around soon. Soon the very name “America” will mean next to nothing…

With our choices we really need to ask who is going to be there to lift the USA during this economic crisis. I saw Robert Kiyosaki on CNN today. He made a comment that put chills on my spine - where is our country with the education about finance in our schools? We need to teach our children early about how to invest, where to put money, how to survive financially. Financial education is the backbone of our United States. If our kids do not have the tools to succeed then what???

I don’t think these NeoCon-men will be satisfied until the whole world is poor and willing to work for slave wages.

The truth is none of them have plan (and as you mention by his own admission, McCain doesn’t even have a clue), and America is under a complete delusion because the basis of our economy are unsustainable.

Ron Paul is too extreme but in principle he’s right. We have a dollar that is based on nothing accept the governments word, we operate on a deficit, we don’t produce anything, we borrow all our money from china, which we then use to buy all of our products from china, we get all our fuel from one country that’s a dictatorship (Saudi Arabi), and another which we continually antagonize (Venezula), entitlement programs are growing way out of proportion, defense spending is absurd, and it is more absurd on top of that to cut funding while engaging in a nonstop war (something that’s never been done before); and we go from one speculative bubble (internet late 90s) to another (housing now) and we don’t learn a damn thing.

It’s all waiting just to collapse on itself.

Regina,It scares me to say this but the Roman Empire fell because of greed. If the empire of our United States fall it is because of being blind to the issues you outlined. few cared in the past because the affected was poor and mostly minority. Today all are impacted,I agree with your call for action. Thanks for your remark

Yobachi, your comment is one for all to see.We have a 3rd world economy, we have become customers and no longer manufacturers and sellers. If we do not manufacter, we have few working class jobs. We used back our dollars with a gold reserve that stood behind every dollar. Now we have federal reserve note or a loan which we have borrowed from China. We have not treated China the best in the pass. I wonder if,this fact has any to do with our problem with toys and other products made in China.Thank you for your insight

In my comment that should have said “and it is more absurd on top of that to cut TAXES while engaging in a nonstop war”

If you’re sick and tired of hearing what Hillary and Bill Clinton think about Black people and what we can accomplish, please help us engage in some push-back by signing this online petition to the DNC and the super-delegates:

“The signatories to this statement urge that Senator Hillary Clinton must concede defeat in her quest for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination and must support the Democratic ticket. ”

ESQ Holland, I did sign as JD, the choice would be automatic for Barack if color and race were not such a division in our society

    Brothers & Sisters
You make excellent point and have a good grasp of socio-political issues and current events. However what I don’t see is the economic views about doing business that will employ our population. It will be hard to control
you destiny when we are dependent for
employment on people outside our community. The idea of becoming self sufficient has to be incorporated into our culture just like recent Chinese, Indian or Vietnamese immigrants have demonstrated. I talk about this matter because it is the prevailing conditions in several Afro communities world over. Obama have started the dialog on race but now we also have to ask serious questions on why the black people all over the world are not part icipating in the world economy as an equal partner. African countries have natural resources they sell to the G7 at a pittance price or agricultural(Cocoa, Coffee bean etc..)
raw products that they could not process process due to lack of know-how. The biggest scandal of all
is giving away our intellectual property rights which is our history.
Carter G. Woodson said …”if a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated”
Money runs politics and our elected officials will alway answer to the
    business constituents.

    Thank you
    Joe Agu
