It is The Economy Stupid!

I watched in horror 6 years ago as our nation prepared for war.General Powell, at the time our Sec. of State was forced to lie to the United Nations about weapons of mass destruction, remember them? In a unprecedented move the US made a pre-emptive attack on Iraq. In an embarrassing move our nation cheered as the cowboy George W Bush, (a former cheerleader himself), lead the cheers as shock and awe took place.
It was considered un American to question the war.Just over 5 years ago George W Bush, playing war hero, was landed on a aircraft carrier boat, and declared mission accomplished. Oh the price of oil prior to the attack on Iraq was between 24 and 28 dollars a barrel. Today, 135 dollars a barrell!I will say it again, the price of a barrel of oil before George Bush’s war was under 30 dollars!
Petroleum is used for many business products that are manufactured. We all use petroleum for our transportation fuel and heating oil. Although we are not in a recession, a lot of business owners are hurting.
As a business blogger and bussness owner, I want a President that can fix the economy and allow us to have peace. McCain is doing what Republicans do best, making stuff that just does not matter an issue.Do I care if President Obama speaks to the leaders of countries that are the axis of evil, or our neighbor Cuba? No, do I care that gas cost 4 dollars a barrel and over 4000 young people have given their life, for what? Hell yes I care!
Business people lets be real, demand our President have a plan for; the domestic economy, fair and adfordable housing, a safe environment, a high quality public school education, universal health insurance, equal rights for women and citizens of color, and a plan for peace.
Those things affect every day people, war does not, national security is not needed in times of peace and prosperity.
This race for President is a business issue,a third Bush administration will bankrupt our nation and our souls. Keep Hope Alive

Yes, follow the money not Karl Rove manufactured talking points, the mud slinging will only get worse from here to November.

On the flip side, crazy oil prices will be an incentive to divorce ourselves from fossil fuels and start researching cleaner, better alternatives.

Great post Jim! War begins with us and peace begins with us. That’s rather scary on one hand and yet hopeful on the other!

Would you agree that solutions are out there? Yet a habitual mindset for war - and competition with greed in mind - will miss ‘em every time.

Our last few wars prove it - and so does Ireland’s solid peace plan that spiked their prosperity!

Hi JO, 2 excellent points, Rove wanted less gov, balance budget and less spending, he and Bush failed miserably, it is ironic that Clinton and Gore were more in ture with the conservative revolution than Bush, Rove and now McCain. Thanks for the comment

Hi Ellen, thanks for the comment, yes there are solutions, and they are common sense. We need bipartisant leadership.having world peace will free up many resources.
