Father Pfleger was Right!
Father Michael Pfleger, a white Roman Catholic Priest mocked Senator Hillary Clinton over her failed campaign last week.As Father Pfleger explained white entitlement and supremacy, he used Hillary’s tears to make a point. He said there were a lot of white folks crying.Look at the utube video and see if you can find something wrong about it.
I grew up in a neighborhood near a convent and since I was a little boy have always considered the Catholic Church a racist institution. It has something to do about a Priest, whom had a black dog he called nigger. My father always told me if you see black Catholics, it means the white man has messed with their religion.Father Pfleger heads up St. Sabina Catholic church in the hood and with a mostly black congregation. He is a pillar in the community and a fighter for black rights. Appears to be a good man.
The reaction from the church was swift and angry. Cardinal George, The Archdiocese of Chicago made sure his voice was heard. It is ironic that the sex abuse with children scandal did not receive nearly as quick a response from the Archdiocese. Duh?
I have spoken to several white people about Father Pfleger, and their reaction was just as quick and angry. Think about, if you have seen the tape, it cannot not be what was said. It must be who he said it to. A betrayal,Judas to his color.Pfleger showed more love to Black people and less to the entitled. That is the issue.

What that racist hating preacher and big pal of Obama, Rev. Michael Pfleger, really meant when he said he was apologizing the Mrs. Clinton:
“I apologize for the words that I chose (since someone taped my serman). I apologize for my dramatization that was, for many people who do not know me, simply typical dramatics I often use in sermons (to spew my hatred of America and the white heterosexual man). . . . I apologize (with my fingers crossed behind my back) for anyone who was offended (or made ill) and who thought it to be mockery (while it was really what I meant), that was neither my intent, nor my heart (which you really saw when I said that I hate America except for my gay priest friends).”

I started not to comment but decided to come back and put my 2 cents out to the Blogosphere!
Whether Father Pfleger was right or not, I personally feel that the pulpit is not the place for politics. Especially in a campaign as crucial as this one!
When you have preachers/pastors giving their PERSONAL opinions over the pulpit to the congregation at large that preacher is ASSUMING that the entire congregation agrees with him. Now if you do not agree with their opinion you do one of two things…
1 - you act phony and go along with the crowd while you’re there and complain about it later.
OR
2- you disagree than and there and are either ostracized or continually asked why, there by being forced to defend your opinion when you shouldn’t have to.
I personally think it is irresponsible for ANY MAN of God to place his congregation/parishioners in that situation.
The church should remain neutral and pray for both/all candidates.
My personal opinion…Yes Hillary does think she is entitled BUT ANY and ALL preachers (Wright, Pfleger, Hagee, etc.)are dead wrong for using the pulpit to voice their personal opinions! That IS NOT the job of the church. Maybe churches should be focusing their energy and time on GOD’s work and the world wouldn’t be going to hell in a hand basket!
So that’s my 2 cents!
Peace & Love!!

While I don’t disagree with Pfleger, this isn’t behavior that’s Christian-like. Christ never set out to humiliate or make fun of his enemies, he reached out to them with love.
Your comments on Catholicism are ones I’ve honestly never heard of. Ironically, I left the Catholic Church many years ago because of the hypocrisy.
I would say that there are ‘islands of hope’ even in Catholic Churches, though. I went to School on the East Side of a city at a very poor Catholic School. Most of our students were inner city, not white, and never paid a dime for an excellent education. The Church made it a point to collect all it could and provide anyone, regardless of color, with the education they wanted. They never turned away anyone.

Regina, Thanks for using this post to voice your opinion. You are right in theory, but in reality, The Church is a big part of black political involvement. Using Obama’s former church as the venue of a political cnotroversial stand was unwise and hurtful for his fall campaign.
Keep in mind 2 of the black community’s most famous Revs have run for president, Jackson and Sharpton

Hi Doug, there are good Catholics and bad, your early experience was good, the poor taste I have is dated and perhaps does not reflex the church of today. I wonder what other blacks think of the Catholic church.I may in fact go to visit Father Pelefer church some Sunday. It still is remarkable how this topic caused such a quick reaction from the church and the problems of pedophilia took much longer to response.

Manfred, thanks for your contribution,Father Pfleger did sound remorseful but I cannot say you are wrong. I do not think Obama and Pfleger are close friends but perhaps two big personalities from Chicago south side that have worked together to provide hope for many.

Fahim, God is great, Peace be on to you! The Priest really seems like he loves the black experience. Thanks for your comment

JD,
That’s great insight. It’s that hypocrisy that I walked out on. I’ll have to tell you my story one day over a cup of coffee.

Father Pfleger’s comments weren’t just about “Hillary”–it’s bigger than that: he was behaving sexist and racist against whites in general. He is best friends with Farrakhan, and he has Axelrod, Mayor Daley, Frank Clark (Obama bundler and old Thomas Ayers (Bill’s dad) partner, and many more as the chair people on his St. Sabina church board. He’s mixed with corrupt politicians and too many racists, he’s been arrested dozens of times, and he helped put together the million man march and he’s said anti-semitic things, and white hating things, and “America is the greatest sin against God,” etc. He’s ill.
He preaches marxist black liberation theology, which is NOT catholicism and he should be defrocked immediately.
P.S.: Hillary never cried–she got choked up, but not one single tear ran down her cheeck: HUGE over-reaction.

Politicians in general, in Washington, are all in line - look at it they all feel entitled. The Democratic party is almost set up to be the carpet for legacy politicians. Hopefully this will stop.
I’m agnostic, left the RC church in high school.
I do think Preachers should preach about what they are supposed to know about and I don’t think that is politics. Save the souls, and talk political truths at the dinner table or at a meetings which do not involved the church.
He looked a little foolish if you ask me, because although he said the truth he said it like a middle school child.

Cooper, Hi, thanks for stopping by, you are right he did look like a fool but we love in Chicago for being what he is, a white man that loves black culture and people.

USA, wow! Thanks for your insight,I cannot comment about the Preachings of Father Pleger.Seldom have I heard the word racism used to describe a white man vs his own people. Controversial yes, defender of his flock yes, the word sexist is being overused in this campaign.
Senator Clintor is the Senator from my home state and is well respected in New York. Some say her campaign has been racist, I do not fault her for that, as the election begin to slip away, the race card became the only hope she had.
Senator Clinton has advanced the cause of women politicians and has been a strong candidate.I hope she will continue to be a leader in the party and contribute to the election of Barack as President.
June 4th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I must disagree with you on advancing the cause, Jim. Hillary should have dumped Bill long ago and showed her true strength as a woman when he disrespected her by being with other women. Instead, she played the weak ’stand by her man’. I believe that hurt the view of women in our country, not helped it.
I also think she basically slapped Barack in the face by not gracefully bowing out last night and congratulating Obama on WINNING. Instead, she threw up her ‘every vote counts’ to create more division in the party.
I think the Clintons and Gores have done more to disgrace and destroy the Democratic party than anyone in recent years. They don’t care about you and me, they care about staying in power and making hundreds of millions of dollars each year on the backs of those they say they’re helping.
(Sorry for the rant, but I’m no fan of Hillary’s!).
Barack’s speach last night was amazing, gracious, and incredibly positive. McCain better get in the spotlight more if he hopes to make this a close race. I’m not sure he stands a chance.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Doug, thanks for your insight and compelling dialog regarding Senator Clinton’s plight. She blames sexism, and the media being fond of Barack. Some would say a poor strategy and a dumb bitch are the reason. We are left to decide if the dumb bitch is Bill or Hillary, that being said, I am not going to dump on the Clintons because politics make strange bed fellows.

Father Pfleger has had his fifteen minutes of fame - and he doesn’t deserve to have any more attention from you or me or the media.
I agree with Regina regarding her stance that politics and religion are like oil and water - she didn’t say that, I just paraphrased - and there’s no room for this sort of crap coming out of a ‘Man of God’s’ mouth.
Who’ll give odds that Fr. Pfleger will wind up in hell?
June 9th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Morgan, Father Pfleger has been a fighter for those of need in Chicago and does a lot of good work.He is usally on the side of the black community and perhaps that is the reason for the hate he receives. Thanks for stopping by.
