Yes We Can!

My friend Yobachi, author of Black PerspectiveMentioned to me he found the speeches boring for the Democratic convention. Yobachi has a great blog and is engaged in very important issues. I missed most of the first night but did see the eloquent and committed to change, Mrs. Obama do a great job. I missed Ted Kennedy, but that had to be special.
Obachi was right about the speeches I saw on day 2. Hillary was good but boring to me. Last night, Bill Clinton turned the joint out. Yobachi, tonight will be special.
Tonight is the night for me. 45 years to the day when Dr. King gave his famous speech during the historic march on Washington, a special moment will take place. Business people, never again can we say, we cannot do something because of our color. What a role model for accomplishment. When Barack says, tonight I accept the nomination of the Democratic Party to be the candidate for president of the United States. Wow! Wow! Wow! Stand up and shout, “Say It Loud I am Black and I am proud of my country!”
This is big, how big, I have played on a football team that had a 2.5 year unbeaten streak, this is much bigger than that, much bigger than Reggie’s 3 homeruns in the world series, bigger than Ali knocking out Forman, Bigger than the Bills playing in the super bowl and even bigger than Willis Reed limping down the tunnel at Madison Square Garden and hitting his first 2 jump shots, over Wilt Chamberlin. The Knick won the NBA. That year. This is bigger than when Marvin Gaye came back from exile and released Sexual Healing.
Please forgive my reference to sports and music, but those are things I love and until tonight, the fields where we were expected to excel in.
Barack Obama has broadened my view of what is possible. Tonight he will make us all proud and hopefully remove the fear of many undecided voters. Yes Bill Clinton gave a great speech; Barack’s speech tonight will make history. What will it mean to you?

Update From Denver

Here is a copy of a email I got from Congressman Jackson. You can feel the energy.

Dear James,

I’ve taken a moment out from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado to bring you up to speed on what’s happened in the last 48 hours.

At this convention both Democrats and Republicans from all across this great nation have come together, rallying behind Barack Obama to take our country on a new path. I’ve been to numerous conventions in my life and something is different this time. While our primary was long and contentious, it has given us a larger, stronger Democratic party than I’ve ever seen before.

But this is no time for rest. I’ve been running all over this convention, talking to everyone about the vision Barack Obama has for our nation. Yesterday I appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation alongside Governors Kathleen Sebelius and Ed Rendell. Click here to watch the video of yesterday’s show.

And just moments ago I left the stage of Politico’s panel on what Barack’s candidacy means for the future of black politics. I was joined by Majority Whip James E. Clybourn, Former Virginia Governor Doug Wilder, Dr. Cornell West and Tavis Smiley. It was a brilliant panel that I hope you’ll take a moment to view. Click here to view the discussion.

Tonight I will take the podium in primetime to address the entire nation and share with them the Barack Obama that I’ve known and supported for over a decade. Tune into PBS for coverage of my speech. I’m slotted to take the stage tonight between 8:00 and 8:30 PM Central Standard Time tonight. I hope you’ll tune in.

We all know that change is nothing new to the 2nd Congressional District. It’s something you and I have been creating in our community for the 13 years that I’ve had the pleasure to serve you. Please donate now and help me continue to bring this change back home.

Again, please tune in tonight to PBS (Channel 11 in Chicago) between 8:00 and 8:30 PM CST as I’ll be speaking from the Democratic National Convention in Denver as I help tell America the story of Barack Obama.

So, I hope that you’ll make a donation of $5, $25, $50, $100, $500 or whatever you can afford to my congressional campaign. Together, we can make history and change the country.

Sincerely,

Jesse L. Jackson Jr.
Member of Congress

Here is what you say in an interview when they ask do you have questions

I came across a informative post regarding the one question you should ask but no one does in a interview
The question is, “when do I start?” I have interviewed perhaps thousands of sales candidates over the decades. A kiss of death for sales candidates is to not try to close during the interview.Even thought you seldom are allowed to close successfully during an interview, you have to ask.
The questions attached are good basic questions for entry and JR. management positions. The higher you goes up the ladder, the more you want to ask about specific strategies and competition. You will want to show you understand the complexities of the business. An example, ” you offer 24 hour delivery for you customers. Surly your fleet is affected by the raising price of gas. What steps have you taken to increase revenues to offset higher gas prices in the short term?
The answer to this question, will tell you a lot about the company. You will see how well they adjust and be able to decide if their strategy makes sense to you. You may ask, “Have you thought about offering your clients an incentive to place bigger orders so you can use less gas?”
In this case your question is offering a potential solution to a risk for their profit plan.
So visit the link and let us know some good questions you would ask.

Jesse Jackson Gets Prime Time Speech! JR. That IS

I am excited to see Jesse Jackson Jr. will have his second Prime Time spot at the Democratic National Convention. The other was when he introduced his dad after Jesse Jackson SR’s historic run in the 80’s.
Jesse Jr. is a national co-chair for the Obama campaign. If Barack wins, Congressman Jackson would be a great choice to back fill Obama’s Senate seat. Let’s keep hope alive!

THE 2008 CONVENTION:
One Nation — Monday, August 25th
National Obama Co-Chair Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr.
to Address the Convention

DENVER — The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and the
Obama For America Campaign announced today that Congressman Jesse L.
Jackson, Jr. has been tapped by Senator Barack Obama to address the
Democratic National Convention in Denver.

A friend, early and active supporter and co-chair of Obama’s
presidential campaign, Congressman Jackson will highlight Senator
Obama’s uniquely American story, record of service and vision for the
country.

“Our theme on Monday night is One Nation, and Representative Jesse
Jackson, Jr. is someone who has worked throughout his career to bring
people together,” said Leah Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. “The
Democratic Party has a bright future thanks to leaders like him.”

Jackson said, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to participate as
a speaker at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The nomination
of Senator Barack Obama as president is a defining moment in our
country’s history, and I feel exceedingly proud and privileged to not
only be a witness, but also to play a role at our Convention.”

Congressman Jackson will address the Convention on Monday, August
25th — the same evening that Michelle Obama will be the prime-time
headline speaker.

“My Convention speech is an important moment for me to share what
I’ve come to see and know about an extraordinary public servant
during the last 20 years. As president, Barack Obama will bring our
country together and move us forward to meet the challenges that we
all face. He will lead our nation back on the path to peace and
prosperity,” Jackson concluded.

In his seventh term, Congressman Jackson sits on the House
Appropriations Committee, serving as the Vice-Chair of the
Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs as
well as the fourth most senior Democrat on the Subcommittee on Labor,
Health and Human Services and Education, and Related Agencies. He
also sits on the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food
and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies.

Fix The Economy with Your Vote

Lets use a great question uttered by Ronald Regan in a debate. Are you better off today, than 8 years ago? I ask this question to our once great nation. America, are you better off today than you were 8 years ago. America are you better off today than you were in 1964? Why 1964? Since 1964 only 2 democrats have won the white house on election day. That right we have put our national faith in the hands of the Republican party.
I grew up during the 50, 60 and early 70’s. For much of that time, there was no question, America was a great and admired nation with allies all over world. Today, a broke, third world economy, meaning serviced based. we were the manufacturer and salesman to the world, now we are cosumers for the world. In the 60’s, made in Japan or China, meant junk or cheap. the us dollars were silver certificates, now they are Federal reserve notes, or loans. We borrow money from China to hand out to our citizens, to fool the economy.
The world is no longer ruled only by men that look like McCain and Bush, we need to show the world that we understand business is global and involves politics. We need to show we get by our bias regarding color, race and gender. We must show our young people that we are capable of keeping hope alive. With out hope we have nothing. Who you going to vote for?
Barack changed the game of raising money.Young people like my son Talib, are able to contribute money via their own web sites. Please visit Talib’s site, “Run for Autism, and make a small contribution.
